Crimea interwar (photo documents)

Start

In the funds of the CDFCA of Ukraine named after GS Pshenichny preserves a considerable collection of audiovisual documents, which recorded the image of the Crimea with the help of new technical means of the twentieth century. The unique natural and cultural complex of the peninsula lives visibly and audibly on the film. The outlines of each historical period are instantaneous in general ephemerality, and today’s Crimea is not what it was yesterday or will live tomorrow. The Crimea of the age between the two world wars is a rather rare portrait today.

We offer one of such rarities – a trip to the southern coast through the Baidar Gate, stops in front of the only surviving example of Crimean Tatar palace architecture – the unique Khan’s Palace in the style of “Asian Baroque”, “Garden-Palace” Giray; the Church of the Resurrection of Christ on Cape Foros, which rises above a steep cliff at an altitude of 402 m above sea level; the largest wind point of the country over Alupka and Koreiz – Mount Ai-Petri (1234 m); Nikita Botanical Garden; the only fortification of the Genoese in the country with an area of almost 30 hectares on the ancient coral reef – the cone-shaped mountain Kiz-Kulle-Burun (or Kriposna) near Sudak Bay of the Black Sea; visits to the famous since at least the eleventh century. “Cave city” Chufut-Kale, surrounded on three sides by deep valleys at an altitude of 500 meters; “Cremesto Nero”, “Autkinsky”,”Yalta” or just a waterfall on the south side of Ai-Petri “Wuchang-Su” – the largest waterfall in Europe with a height of 98.5 m; architectural marvel – the Crimean residence of the Governor-General of the Novorossiysk Territory Count Mikhail Vorontsov; Chongar Bridge, which spans the 150-meter Chongar Strait, connecting mainland Ukraine with the Crimea.
